Applying Scalp Elixirs alongside Overnight Hair Serums

Understanding Product Placement
Many individuals use leave-in cosmetic hair serums or oils to manage frizz, add shine, or protect the ends of their hair. If you are also introducing a botanical scalp treatment into your routine, managing the physical placement of these products is crucial. The key is spatial separation: the scalp requires different care than the hair strands.
Two Different Goals
- Your Hair Serum: Designed for the lengths and ends of your hair. Depending on the brand, it may be applied to damp or dry hair, following the manufacturer's specific instructions.
- No02 Flourishing Elixir: Designed exclusively for the skin of your scalp. It must be applied to a clean, dry scalp after washing.
How to Section and Apply
Keep scalp and strand applications separate. The sequence below is for a serum whose label allows use on dry hair. If your serum calls for damp hair, apply it to the lengths at that earlier stage, then dry your scalp before using No02.
- Wash and Dry: Wash your hair normally. Since the No02 Elixir requires a dry scalp, proceed to dry your scalp completely (either by air-drying or blow-drying).
- Address the Scalp First: Part your dry hair to expose the scalp. Apply a small amount of the No02 Elixir directly to the exposed skin along the part lines. Use your fingertips to gently massage it in.
- Address the Strands Second: Once your scalp care is complete, dispense your separate hair serum into your palms. Apply it to the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, carefully avoiding the root area and the scalp you just treated.
By keeping the botanical elixir on the skin and your cosmetic serums on the strands, you keep each application in its intended area. For more information on formulation differences, read our Scalp Elixir vs. Hair Conditioner comparison.
