Clean Tools, Clean Scalp: Maintaining Your Hair Combs

Don't Undo Your Post-Wash Prep

The foundation of the No02 Flourishing Elixir routine is applying it to a clean, dry scalp right after washing your hair. However, if you part your freshly washed hair and massage your scalp with a comb or tool that hasn't been cleaned in weeks, you are immediately transferring old oils, dust, and styling product residue back onto your skin.

Cleaning Based on Tool Material

To ensure your tools support your scalp care rather than hinder it, they need regular maintenance. Always clean your tools according to their manufacturer's instructions:

  • Silicone Scalp Massagers: These can typically handle warm soapy water. A gentle scrub with a soft brush removes product buildup between the silicone tips.
  • Wooden Combs: Wood absorbs water and can warp or splinter. Most manufacturers recommend wiping them with a slightly damp cloth or using a specialized wood-safe cleaner, drying them immediately, and occasionally oiling the wood to prevent cracking.
  • Electronic or Battery-Operated Massagers: Never submerge these in water. Follow the brand's guide, which usually involves wiping the contact points with a sanitized, damp cloth.

The Order of Operations

Clean tools are the bridge between your shower and your botanical care. Once your tools are properly cleaned and fully dried, you can confidently part your hair and use your fingertips to apply the No02 Elixir. This keeps old styling residue out of the routine while you apply your leave-in scalp care.
