How to Safely Re-purpose Leftover Botanical Soap Slivers
Published
Handling the Final Pieces
Because the No03 Nourishing Botanical Soap and No04 Ink Jade Cleansing Soap are traditional cold process bars made with natural oils, they will eventually wear down to thin, fragile slivers. When a bar becomes too small to comfortably hold, many people are tempted to throw it away. However, you can easily use every last ounce of the soap with a few safe methods.
The Sticking Method
The most straightforward way to use a soap sliver is to attach it to a brand-new bar.
- Take your new, full-sized No03 or No04 soap into the shower.
- Get both the new bar and the old sliver wet.
- Press the thin sliver firmly against the flat side of the new bar.
- As the soaps dry together on your slotted dish, they may adhere. If the sliver does not stay attached, use a clean foaming net instead.
The Foaming Net Method
If you have several small pieces saved up, place them inside a clean mesh foaming net or a small sisal soap pouch. Work up lather in your hands rather than scrubbing your skin with a rough pouch. Rinse the net and allow both it and the soap to drain and dry between uses.
What Not to Do: Avoid DIY Melting
You may see online tutorials suggesting you collect soap scraps, melt them down in a pot of boiling water or a microwave, and pour them into a mold to create a "new" bar. We strongly advise against this. These bars are intended for washing, not home melting or reformulation. Heating soap and adding water can create hot splashes and change its texture and storage conditions. Stick to the simple, physical merging methods in the shower to keep your routine safe and effective.
