Post-Swim Scalp Care: Dealing with Chlorine and Saltwater

Published

The Post-Swim Wash Routine

Whether you swim in a chlorinated pool or saltwater, the water left in your hair can leave your scalp feeling tight or coated in residue once it dries. If you regularly use botanical leave-in treatments, it is crucial to handle this residue properly before continuing your normal routine.

Step 1: Thoroughly Cleanse First

Never apply a leave-in scalp product directly over dried chlorine or salt. The No02 Flourishing Elixir is designed to sit directly on clean skin, so wash and rinse first rather than using it over swimming residue.

After swimming, rinse and follow your usual cleansing routine. If you already use our No04 Ink Jade Cleansing Soap, use it according to the label and rinse thoroughly; do not treat it as a specialized chlorine-removal treatment.

Step 2: Dry Completely

Once you have thoroughly rinsed the chlorine or saltwater from your hair and scalp, you must dry your hair completely. Towel-dry or blow-dry the root area until the scalp skin is no longer damp. The No02 Elixir features a grapeseed oil base that requires a dry surface to apply correctly.

Step 3: Apply Your Elixir

With a clean, dry scalp, you can now return to your standard post-wash routine. Part your hair to expose the skin, and use your fingertips to massage a small amount of the No02 Elixir along the part lines. This reintroduces your familiar botanical care step, completing your post-swim grooming process.
