Using Botanical Soaps for Post-Gardening Cleanup
Published
Washing Away the Outdoors
After a day of potting plants, weeding, or handling general household chores, your hands are often coated in soil, plant sap, and environmental grime. Using a high-quality cold process bar like the No03 Nourishing Botanical Soap or the No04 Ink Jade Cleansing Soap is an excellent way to physically clean your skin while enjoying a grounding, earthy aroma.
What Cold Process Soap Can and Cannot Do
It is important to understand the role of these soaps in your cleanup routine. They are highly effective at breaking down oils, lifting dirt, and physically washing away grime from the surface of your skin. However, they are not medical sanitizers, antibacterial treatments, or chemical neutralizers. If you have been handling hazardous garden chemicals or synthetic fertilizers, follow the specific safety and washing instructions provided on those chemical labels.
The Cleanup Routine
For standard soil and plant debris, follow these steps to get your hands thoroughly clean:
- Rinse First: Run your hands under warm water to physically flush away loose dirt and grit before touching the soap bar. This prevents the soap from becoming embedded with mud.
- Build the Lather: Rub the botanical soap vigorously between your wet hands to generate a thick foam. If you have soil trapped under your fingernails, use a dedicated wooden nail brush to work the soapy lather into the crevices.
- Rinse Completely: Hold your hands under running water until all the lather and lifted dirt are washed down the drain.
- Store the Soap: Place the wet soap on a slotted dish so it can drain and harden before its next use.
